Scaffolding Safety Training in Malaysia

Course Description
Scaffolders are responsible to install, dismantle and maintain scaffolding. The provisions of 74 (1) of the Regulations (Building Operations and Works of Engineering Construction) (Safety) Regulations, Factories and Machinery Act, 1986 stipulates that all the work of installing, dismantle or maintain the scaffold shall be carried out under the supervision of the 'designated person' or competent person appointed by the employer to supervise or inspect the work.

Course Objective
This course has been design to: Create awareness of the various types of scaffold, their uses and construction; basic safety and management of various scaffolds used at workplace; and identifying hazards that may be present on site in ensuring a safe working condition.

  • Scaffolding Terminology
  • Components, Standards, Ledgers, Couplers etc.
  • Foundations, Bracing and Tying Scaffolds
  • Working Platforms, Ladder Access, Manual Handling
  • System Scaffolds, A Frame Metal or Aluminum
  • Theory of Basic Independent Scaffold
  • Practical Exercise: Erect 3 x 2.4m bays, one lift

Assessment – Theory
There will be interactive class discussion and verbal questioning throughout each lesson. There will be five written examinations during the course in the form of a multiple choice paper, there will be 5 questions to each test paper, on which there will be not less than 4 possible answers to each question. The questions and answers will be written using simple English/Bahasa language.

Assessment – Practical
There will be two practical inspection sessions during which the delegates will be given training on identifying defects and then required to identify defects on their own.

  • General Safety Measures in Scaffold material

  • Competence of harness and inspection

Day 2

  • Correct method of using harness
  • Practical Training scaffold erection
  • Continue Practical Training
  • Continue Practical Training
  • Review of the practical and learn from mistakes
  • Written Exam
  • Q & A, Certificate Presentation
